to support the pipe going out into the beaver pond.
Beavers are a hazard to Kelly Road Camp.
They build the dam and make acres go damp.
Wet feet may not survive if belonging to a flower or a tree.
Into the trap and off with the hide every beaver I see.

Deer Blinds
I would like to recommend the Slayer deer blind as the best deer blind on the market today. Its attributes can be found on the Slayer Outdoor Products website.
I am buck from kellyroadcamp.com You can find my Deer Blind advice at this web site,
A deer blind is a shack in the woods, a bramble fence or just a staked camo curtain set to hide the hunter’s presence. The location may near a baited area if allowed and such a baited area is best after perhaps three years in the same place because deer have a good memory of time and location for a food source and seem to recognize a change of view for that long..
Many would be deer gurus expound on the best location for a deer stand or blind but only the deer know why they go the way they do. For example, near Kelly Road Camp there was an area that seemed avoided and noted by the absence on run ways or road crossing tracks, an odd event finally explained the finding of the reason .
Phil and I were returning to back camp late one night and came upon a bear track in the newly fallen snow. We decider to park the truck and follow. The track led down Kelly to Parson’s trail going west. About 150 yards down the trail the track entered at a previously unknown bear den on one side of an overturned big pine tree root ball. At the opposite side of the same root ball was a coyote den. No wonder the absence of deer runs for a wide margin around this hazard only known by the deer.
Deer runs are the safe highway for deer as they know they can run full tilt if needed with rarely running into at blind end or hazard that would make them fresh meat for a hungry predator. The location of good runways are the perhaps the best location for a deer blind.
Deer will ignore and forget the blind is there if it sets empty and quite for a time of perhaps a year or two. Less detection at hunting season should include a raked path for silent approach to the blind and some cover, perhaps consideration of human odors, a slow quite and low approach. Perhaps hunting clothes hung out doors over night to ward off human smell , a lower silhouette if possible, perhaps a grade to one side path to put a little high ground on the deer side, some tall grass or other thick cover planted.
The blind could be aided by adding additional cover. A bramble bush in front and around may add some common noises such as leaf’s bumping and birds chirping and hopping about. The open window might have a fabric screen curtain with shooting cuts. Perhaps even a hunting hat and a dummy head to make believe the hunter is there all year and not a danger.
Beavers
Beaver Dam Solution that works.
My findings from 40 years of managing beavers:
It is best to do a beaver job at mid summer when water flow is normal. Nothing can stop spring thaw water flow so that amount should simply go over the entire dam every spring.
Beavers can’t stand water flowing over gravel so one must allow some water to pool in road culverts so having a beaver control level to leave a water level in the culvert .
If you can not choose a place to manage the dam then solving a plugged culvert close to the road may be better than fixing problems a half mile back in the woods.
To maintain the roadway culvert water level a pipe can be place in the beaver pond wall with having a T at the end and a wire at half the opening so a turtle will not get stuck in to block the pipe.
A beaver pipe dam control drain can not be used at road culverts because of spring thaw and vandalism.
The area in front of a beaver control pipe will slowly fill with top soils so the device may require moving at about ten year intervals. Some times adding a pipe section will suffice. That is the reason the in-side-wall-drain should be suspended above the bottom of the pond. the control pipe should extend far out into the pond so to take longer to sediment fill.
It is best to maintain a level only slightly lower than the existing level or problems may be caused at another location.
Recommended: a partner for safety and help, ability to swim, shovel, axe, saw, leg or hip waders.
Items needed:
Three 10 foot long sections of PVC 4” to 10” diameter recommended. Roughly 2 or 3 times the volume of the water flow at mid- summer.
One pipe T of the diameter you choose.
4 or 6 fence posts, this to extend the pipe out into the pond and to deeper water.
Process:
Cut a notch in the beaver dam at a place where the pond is deep.
Set the pipes with only 4 to 8 feet on the out-going side and the remaining with the T on the in going side.
Set the height of the outgoing drain side to allow 1/3 water in a up stream culvert if one is near by. Simply measure off from the surface of the water.
Angle the pipe so the T at the in-going end is below one foot of water when the flow stops coming out of the drain side.
Stake the angle on the long in-going side with 4 fence posts securely pounded in pond floor. Two near the end and two at a mid point. You may also stake the pipe at the out-going side for strength.
With the in-going end set 12” under water any time there is flow water floating debris will not be the problem.
Turtles may and do try to enter the pipe and can get stuck to plug T ends on the in-going side so a wire or pin is used to half the opening..
Attach a wire basket or perforated plastic bucket to the in-going side to allow full flow water volume of the pipe but to not let any pipe plugs debris enter. Make this guard's top 12 inches under water when flow level is achieved.
Additional safe guards to help to trick beavers and improve the project:
Put stones and sticks in the top layer fill near the pipe on the in-going side.
Finish a top path with dry dirt and dry grass cuttings over work area to look like a beaver path.
Cut two decoy notches far away from work area just a little lower than height of drain pipe level for attention deversion.
